We are in the midst of a sermon series titled “Those Who Know Your Name”, which is taken from Psalm 9:10, “Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.” When we know who God is, we trust him and desire to seek him more. For the month of January we will be looking together at the names and titles of God, so that our faith in him might grow and we might seek him more.
This morning we will look at several Old Testament passages and a couple in the New Testament and one of God’s titles with military implications. He is Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts. Throughout Scripture, well over 200 times, we find the title Lord of Hosts (or Lord of Armies, depending on your bible translation.) David fought Goliath in the name of the Lord of Hosts! The Lord of Hosts is the one who fights on behalf of his people and the one in whom his people find comfort. The Lord of Hosts is our saving, warrior God.
