Imagine David as a young man shepherding his father’s sheep. He would scout the land for the best place for his sheep to graze. He would keep an eye out for trouble and rescue them when they got themselves in trouble or when they were attacked. Because David was a good shepherd, the sheep felt safe in his presence. They knew their needs were taken care of.
Now imagine the day it struck him that he had a shepherd too. At some point it dawned on him that God looked out for him and provided for his needs. At some point he came to see that he could rest easy in the presence of his God, who rescued him from trouble and watched over him in the darkest times.
“The Lord is my shepherd.” This must have meant so much to David.
What will it mean to us?
