In 1 John 2 we find John applying his metaphor of the vine and the branches to a local church.

All the things we know without a doubt that our soul needs.
And all the things we avoid unless we are abiding in the life God is giving life to us.
John reminds the church of the words of Jesus, that we cannot show the world that we are living and learning from Jesus if we have hatred for our brothers in our heart.
Why is so much easier to label and hate, to isolate, to hold in contempt?
And yet abiding and obeying, fellowshipping and loving, are the very fulfillment of all that God promised in the New Covenant.
