This morning, we will be looking at what the Apostle John has to say about our confidence as children of God. Alan Bryant will be bringing the message from the letter of 1 John.

In the Upper Room the night before he went to the cross, Jesus commanded his disciples to love one another; that same command is for us today as well.

his passage can help the church to realize anew just how horribly sinful sin really is, while at the same time living in the joyful confidence of knowing that Jesus is who he said he is and he did what he said he would do.

The gospel carries such amazing hope that it can change our lives dramatically. It’s a lavish love and a certain identity that this world cannot possibly give!

If you want the average Christian’s ears to turn your direction, just start talking about end times and the Antichrist. The Antichrist will deceive many, so how do we stand in confidence? By abiding in the most basic of truths: the identity of Jesus and who we are and what we have in him.

Little did we know that this passage in chapter 2 would be so put to the test in 2020! Loving our brothers and sisters was challenged at every hand, and the only solution is to abide in Christ and for His love to be perfected in us.

John had a personal, life-changing encounter with Jesus and he tells the church that they too can have fellowship with Jesus as well.

In the life of a Christ-follower, the heart of the battle will always be the heart of the disciple. The fight between the unholy trinity – the world, the flesh and the devil – and the Christian will always be over desire and love. Because whatever has your love has your service.

Self affirmation, or God’s affirmation? Which would you prefer?

John reminds the church of the words of Jesus, that we cannot show the world that we are living and learning from Jesus if we have hatred for our brothers in our heart.
